The boom in construction that is filling China's metropolitan areas with skyscrapers and preparing it for modern industry has changed it from a minor consumer of raw materials into a country that absorbs almost half the world's cement, one-third of the steel, one-fifth of the aluminum and nearly one-fourth of the copper. China is second-largest importer of oil. Mineral and metals producers have increased in value. They largely have Asia's booming economy to thank. Material-intensive construction and automotive sectors in Asia have done this. China has already replaced the United States as the largest consumer nation in the world! China is now the largest consumer of copper, zinc, tin, rubber, raw wool, cotton, coal and major oil seeds. In addition to this, what about China's neighbor, the second most populated nation in the world? India is the 4th largest economy in the world. |
